History of Victor Baptist Church
Victor Baptist Church was organized in a small wooden building on Hill
Street, now West Poinsett Street, in 1899 by Rev. W.W. Jones, the pastor of
Greer First Baptist Church. The membership of this organization was 12
people.
Later in 1899 the meeting place for that group was moved to the Victor
Community Building located in front of the Victor Mill on Victor Avenue.
That building was destroyed by fire in December of 1903. The members and
neighborhood people met in individual homes or in a grove of trees on 7th.
Street until a new Union Church, now Victor Methodist Church was built. Both
Baptist and Methodist people in the community used the building at
alternating times.
In 1916, with the help of the Victor Company, Victor Baptist Church, a
pebbled clay church building on the corner triangle on Victor Avenue and
Line Street was completed. This church facility was used 26 years. A larger
building was completed in 1942. It contained Sunday school rooms and a large
sanctuary. During the 1950’s the church had over 1000 members.
In 2003, the church members led by the deacons and the Pastor, Rev. Ken
Vickery, voted to relocate to

Master
Building Plan
In the year 2003 the Master
Building Plan was developed for the current campus of Victor Baptist
Church |
|
The Church Body voted overwhelming for the building plan
which Cogun, Inc. presented to the Church and gave the go ahead for
construction to start. Tentative plans call for a January or
February ground breaking. This is an exciting time in the life of
Victor Baptist Church. The
progress of the plan can be followed here through pictures and information
as it happens. |

| The New Vision....A New
Victor Celebration Banquet was held Sunday, November 9 at 6:00pm at
Fairview Baptist Church Social Hall. Immediately following the
Celebration Banquet, Faith Promise cards will be mailed to each church
family. You are asked to continue praying about your family's
sacrificial commitments, fill out your card in the privacy of your home
and return it on the following Sunday during our Special
Commitment/Dedication Service.
If for some reason you cannot attend the Commitment/Dedication Service on
Sunday, November 16, 2003, you may bring your Faith promise card by the
church office or drop it in the mail during the week. Or, if you
prefer, you may call the church office and request that a Commitment
Visitor come by and pick up your card.
This plan will provide the opportunity
for every family to have their Faith Promise counted along with the other
families of the church. Commitment/Dedication Sunday will be a great
experience in the life of our church. |

Victory Services
Set for Sunday, November 23, 2003
As the intensive portion of A
New Vision...A New Victor emphasis comes to a close, plans are being made
for a Victory Celebration on Sunday morning, November 23, 2003. On
this Victory Sunday, the extent to which we have reached our goals will be
revealed.
At the beginning of the
program, the church adopted three goals: The Faith Goal $400,000,
the Challenge Goal $500,000 and the Hallelujah Goal of $600,000 to be
raised over the next three years. Which of these three goals we meet
or exceed will determine the extent of construction we will be able to
begin on the new building. Please be in prayer for these goals, that
God will lead us to accomplish ALL we can do for HIM! |

FAITH PROMISE |
|
"A promise made in faith
that God will help you to keep." |
|
December 11........Although the Faith Promises did not reach the
minimum goal of $400,000, the leadership of the church had a meeting with
Cogun, Inc. officials and decided to step forward in faith and with
confidence to lead our people forward toward the new building
project. Exciting things will begin in a couple of months with the
ground breaking process. |

a site on property purchase by the church at 121 New Woodruff Road, which
is located approximately three quarters of a mile farther down Line Street.
Snow Street, Harvey Road and New Woodruff Road border the site. The new
church building was begun in April 2004 and the first worship service was
held in the new building on April 17, 2005. On Sunday, May 15, 2005, a
Dedication service was held for the new sanctuary and education facility.
Thirty members from Victor Baptist Church have felt the call and gone
into full time Christian service. Since 1899 twenty pastors have served the
congregation before the current pastor, Rev. Ken Vickery.
The "Vision" of Victor Baptist Church is "Reaching a City to
Reach the World." This we try to do through seeking, reaching, and
teaching those in our city, our country, and the world with the message of
God’s love and forgiveness of sin. We are committed to sharing with others
the grace and peace that Jesus gives.
