Pastor's Paragraph

One Solitary Life

Jesus' Impact on the World

He was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He grew up in still another village, where he worked in a carpenter shop until he was thirty. Then for three years he was an itinerant preacher. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never had a family or owned a house. He didn’t go to college. He never visited a big city. He never traveled two hundred miles from the place where he was born. He did none of the things one usually associates with greatness. He had no credentials but himself.

He was only thirty-three when the tide of opinion turned against him. His friends ran away. He was turned over to his enemies and went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed to a cross between two thieves. While he was dying, his executioners gambled for his clothing, the only property he had on earth. When he was dead, he was laid in a grave through the pity of a friend.

Nineteen centuries have come and gone, and today he is the central figure of the human race and the leader of mankind’s progress. All the armies that ever

the kings that ever reigned, put together, have not affected the life of man on this earth as much as that  one solitary life.

A Note from the Pastor…

Dear Friend,

This month we have our annual Celebration Service on May 18th. We will have our silent auction to raise money for our youth mission trip. In addition, we’ll have dinner on the grounds after the morning service. But more than anything we want to celebrate the great things that God is doing in our church. Psalm 115:1 reminds us “Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but to Your name give glory, because of Your mercy, because of Your truth.” This will be a special time for us to give the Lord glory! I pray you will make plans to attend this special Sunday worship celebration.

Just a reminder that May 1st. is National Day of Prayer, so let me encourage you to take five minutes and join the thousands of Christians who are praying for our nation and revival in our land. Take 5 that day, you’ll be glad you did. Also, you have an opportunity to “step out” and serve at the Daily Bread Soup Kitchen on May 4th. (See Frances or Rene for details). And don’t forget Mother’s day on the 11th. We will have special gift for all the moms who attend.

Thank you for all your prayers and support. May God continue to use Victor for His glory!

  In Christ,

Ken

Women of the Word—Women’s Ministry

Dear Ladies,

This morning I was listening to a Bible teacher on TV.  She was speaking on living in the Spirit vs. living in the flesh.  Mainly are we exhibiting the fruit of the Spirit – self-control?  She made the statement that we have the tendency to want to control others when we haven’t begun to exhibit self-control.  That ouches because too often it has been true for me and I have spoken to several women this week who were wanting to control/fix others as well.

I guess what I really want to talk with you about this month is the ability to trust God with those we care about.  No one has perfect children nor are we perfect parents/spouses.  Too often when I see an area in my children’s lives that I would like to see changed – for good reason  - like seeing them grow spiritually or how to handle something they are struggling with,  I begin to give them pointers.  A list perhaps of what they need to do to “fix-it”. Sometimes this extends to Ken as well. (Yes there are times when I have wanted to change something about my husband!)  What I have been seeing over the past few years but has been harder to put into practice, is that I need less to fix-it for them and more to pray for them, be an example to them, surrender them to God, and quit being the Holy Spirit for them!  He has never needed my help.  In fact I am sure I have been a hindrance plenty of times!  In other words, I need to trust God that He knows what is best and will work in their hearts in His own time.  In the mean time, I need to exercise self-control over my mouth & my will and pray for teachable moments when they will listen to hopefully godly instruction from me as the Spirit leads.

So ladies, if you are struggling with wanting to control or fix your spouse, children, or anyone you are in relationship with surrender them to God.  He knows what is best and chances are it may be you who also needs changing!

 God’s blessings,

Barbara

P.S.  Now if I could just exhibit self-control when Ken is eating popcorn out of the bag, rattling it so irritatingly while I am reading or watching TV.  All I want to do is scream “WOULD YOU PLEASE JUST PUT THAT IN A BOWL?”  That’s not too much to ask is it?

Minister of Music & Education:

Hello Church Family,

I want to take the opportunity to catch you up on the progress of our friends in Pippa Passes at Caney Baptist Church.  They have begun to work on their new church building.  The footing has been started, the rough plumbing is complete and the last week in April (if weather permitted) the concrete will be poured.  They need all the prayers that they can get, everything is based on volunteer labor so bad weather could mess up there schedule.  The church has been working toward this for 20 years.  So they are asking us to pray that the weather will be nice while the volunteer teams are there.

Over the next few weeks pay close attention to the announcements before services, we will run some pictures of the work that has been going on recently.  The Lord is working in Pippa Passes and this new facility will open the door for some great outreach opportunities.  They believe that this new church is God’s gift to that community, a place to minister in a lot of new ways.

Please add our friends at Caney Baptist Church to your daily prayer list.

 Serving Him Together,

Jayson
